Bombay Cartel

Kemps Corner, Mumbai
2700 sq.ft.
Completed
August 2018

A unique establishment, with a bold and forward aspiration to form a culture in Mumbai’s F&B space, Bombay Cartel stands strong and different. Capitalizing on the dearth of cool pure vegetarian places in the city that have a vibe unlike any other, the resto-pub hopes to breach the gap and create an identity of its own.

The space is designed with contrasting materials that creates an air of luxury while being casual at the same time. Soft velvety couches are juxtaposed against stark, exposed aerated concrete blocks (ACB), creating a casual yet refined feeling. The space is wrapped with consistent light from the glazed walls and the dim grey of the ACB.

A large 25ft island bar is placed in the center, which symbolizes the concept of parking your bottles. The bar is roofed with a D.J. who floats with the display bottles that are suspended on a metal display, adding an element of drama and grandeur. The tall windows invite an abundance of natural light paired with thick sepia curtains, a homely glow is created during the day. As the evening sky arrives, the large suspended wooden chandeliers dominate the space.

A completely hand painted ceiling, washed in hues of navy blue, white and salmon pink forms a canopy over the naturally lit space. The abstraction of floating color clouds lends an ethereal feeling to the space. Setting itself apart, the space is a fresh change from the “undone” and the “grunge” pub look that is prevalent in the city currently. Everyone will feel welcomed and excited to be a part of this Cartel!
